Nerd Lunch Podcast 8: Nerd Interior Decorating

Long time friend of Nerd Lunch, Fitz, occupies the fourth chair this week. In this episode the guys outfit some rooms with the finest in nerd decor. Fictional decorating budgets are blown on vintage pulp magazines, a replica lightsaber hilt, a Magic d20 of Destiny, and a Pimp Daddy Destro action figure amongst other items. Then things get really geeky when the exercise is repeated with a blank check. Eat your heart out, Ty Pennington.

I didn't know there was a Pimp Daddy My Little Pony!!! Wow, that has to be an exclusive.

Are you kidding me!!! Is that seriously my Pimp Daddy Destro? I was going for the golden head, but I had no idea you actually had one!!! You little sneak.

That is not mine. And I knew you were going for the gold headed version, but when I saw this picture, I couldn't resist.

Yep - Golden Head all the way! :)

Oh, I thought you made it up. I have seen pictures of you Joes and Ponies from you before. It really is a great picture and truly captures the essence of the podcast. Well done.

I have to say sitting in on this particular podcast has had some negative effects . . . I want to actually get the things on my "practical" budget. The problem is I don't have the means in which to right now.

That being said, I am definitely going to work toward it in the next year or so. I absolutely love the Blue Sun Travel posters. I might put some up at home and at my work office (as a nerd detector).

You guys are amazing! I am absolutely certain that there is nobody else on God's green earth that could have made this interesting. You've not only made it interesting, you've inspired me; more on that in a moment.

Jeeg, if you really want an awesome cup you can drink out of without growing a second head out the side of your neck or something, check out budk.com. They sell several skull- and evil knight- themed tankards, and several goblets along the line of a skull being held aloft by a skeletal hand, all under $20.00.

Inspiration - CT, I have actually done this. I'm going to e-mail you some pix of Jack's (actual) Hideout. You can share, hoard, or trash, as the mood strikes.

Jack's Hideout will carry my Halloween post Friday afternoon. Be sure to catch it, as I will be forwarding readers on to a Sunday night radio show with a Halloween theme that's worth a listen for sure. www.jackshideout.blogspot.com.

BTW, I, too, like books. Bonnie arrived in our relationship with a hardback set of Lord of the Rings second edition, 1965. Would I be married today if that weren't the case? On second thought, let's not go down this road...

Great work, as always, gentlemen. Keep shovelling!

The picture of Pimp Daddy Destro I had in my head while we were recording doesn't even come close to the real life majesty. Wow.

Right?!!!!

It is so cool!! :) Now, picture him with a golden dome instead of silver and it gets even better.

As promised, I tried to track down the options provided by the Magic d20 of Destiny. I can't find them all, but Think Geek has a promo video that covers some of them.

"It's a Trap"
"Save Failed"
"Crit!"
"Natural 20"
"Bio Break"

Useful responses for any situation, really.

hey guys,

gotta admit when i saw the title i was a bit disapointed since...well it really doesnt sound thatinteresting..however you hve proved me wrong! great episode the thought of that destro almost made be burst into uncontrolable laughter whic would have been bad since i was at work cooking while i was listening to it(5 second rule! lol)

anyway like i said loved the episode but i was surprisd that not of you chose microsoft surface for your unlimedted budget. or better yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oALIuVb0NJ4
or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR1RdyTv_Mk

bot of these links are examples of what a company clled Nsquared is doing with Microsoft Surface and bring in Kinect, smartphones and tablets and having them all work together seemlessly. as soon as i heard you guys talk about the D&D table i thought that this woud probably be not only cool but useful for four guys guys who work with technology everyday to do their work, most likely at a desk.

Anyway check it out its pretty frickin mind blowing... and if the links dont work just searcg nsquared on youtube

I'm finally reaching the beginning of your podcast archive, it's been really great listening to Nerd Lunch during my commutes to and from work, as well as my lunch break. Your show is really fun, and I've told several friends about your show.

Jeeg- I was astounded when I heard that a Nerd Lunch member was a fan of lucha libre. I'm sort of an ultra lucha libre geek with a blog about it: JesseContraLasLuchadores.blogspot.com
I have a fairly large collection of the movies, and several of the Sensacional de Luchas mini comics, one Santo comic from the 90s, and several lobby cards. I also get comic artists to do sketches of Santo, Blue Demon, Tinieblas, and Mil Máscaras for my walls. I'd really like to get some of the early Blue Demon and Santo comics that were made in fumetti style, but usually they sell in expensive lots on eBay.
In the show, you mentioned SantoStreet. The only reason I dont use them is because it's all bootleg copies. A few years ago, in the bargain bins at Walmart, they were carrying Double Feature Santo/Blue Demon films from Lionsgate. Unfortunately for the spanish-impaired, those DVDs don't have subtitles. The best released DVDs were released through a small company called Rise Above (later named Rebel Crew), which had decent subtitles (I'd argue with some translations), and really nice DVD case art and DVD menu screens.
Funny I just heard this episode and your mention to lucha libre films. I *just* mailed Shawn Robare an extra copy of Las Momias de Guanajuato. I consider that the best introductory film to the genre. I'm hoping he might dig it enough to to an episode of Cult Film Club on it.

Keep up the great podcasts!
